Umbria: The Green Heart and Truffle Wonderland
-
An Important Note About Truffles: Most people outside of Italy think only of Piedmont when they think about truffles. Umbria produces more types of truffles and in greater quantity than Piedmont does. In fact, there are only a tiny number of places in Europe where you can find the naturally occurring, famous white truffle, and Umbria is one of them, and only in the late fall. It is a well-kept secret that a lot of the truffles sold in Piedmont come from Umbria, and they are every bit as good!
-
Explore Gubbio: Wander through one of Italy’s most picturesque medieval towns. Visit landmarks like the Roman Theater, the Palazzo dei Consoli, and the enchanting narrow streets that seem straight out of a storybook.
-
Truffle Hunting: Experience the thrill of truffle hunting with a local expert and his trained dog. After the hunt, enjoy a delicious meal featuring your freshly foraged truffles.
-
Olive Oil Tasting: Savor the taste of "olio nuovo," freshly pressed olive oil that captures the essence of Umbria’s fertile lands. Learn about the olive oil production process and see for yourself why Umbrian olive oil is so highly prized in Italy.
-
One of the World’s Best Museums on Olive Oil and Wine is at the preeminent Lungarotti winery. Their collection of artifacts follows the history of wine and oil from antiquity to present.
-
Truffle Festival: Your visit will culminate with the annual truffle festival in Gubbio. Immerse yourself in the sights, smells, and flavors of this rare and luxurious ingredient, celebrating with locals and other food enthusiasts.
